Story

Candlewyth of the Lanterns is a small, wind-worn town built where the road thins into fen and moor. By day it is unremarkable - low stone cottages, a market green, a modest hall - but by dusk it becomes something else: a deliberate chain of lights, each flame answering the next, holding back the dark beyond the last post. Travelers call it The Last Light. Locals, more bluntly, Lantern End.

The lighting is not fashion or civic pride; it is observance and Candlewyth wears the proof of it. Centuries of flame have left their residue: collars of hardened tallow around lantern housings, ridged drips along lintels and window sills, glossy threshold smears polished by countless hands.

When the disappearances begin, Candlewyth does what it has always done: it spends more tallow, sets more wicks, and prays the light will be enough.
